In the summer of 2013 the City of Edmonton began construction of a grade-separated interchange at the junction of the Queen Elizabeth II Highway and 41 Avenue SW in south Edmonton. The project is jointly funded by the City of Edmonton, Alberta Transportation, and the Federal Government through the Asia-Pacific Gateway and Corridor Initiative (APGCI). At construction completion the interchange is to revert to Alberta Transportation. cloverleaf nterchange will convert 41 Avenue SW into a continuous corridor with full access to and from the QEII Highway. Project complexities have included coordination with the adjacent CPR Intermodal Facility development, environmental constraints of Blackmud Creek, construction staging with respect to the active QE II Highway corridor, and land, stakeholder, and utility considerations. Construction completion is anticipated in the fall of 2015. The presentation to the Northern Alberta CITE section will provide an overview of the project and highlight the current construction status.
